Membership

Heinlein Nexus is primarily an organizational and informational association intended to serve all members of the Heinlein community — which consists of anyone and everyone who has an interest in the life, works and legacies of Robert A. Heinlein. No membership of any kind is required to benefit from our efforts and accomplishments.

Organization is, however, easier when there exists a suitable roster of those interested — to send updated news and information, to poll for opinions on project direction and priority, and to invite to various gatherings and events. You are invited to join this roster — to become a member of Heinlein Nexus. As a member, your presence will be valued and your voice will be heard.

Why join the membership roster when it confers no special access or benefits? Because it makes you an active part of the effort instead of a passive one. It gives you a direct portal to suggest worthwhile projects, sign on to help with those you can, and solicit support for your own. It means news and information will flow directly to you as we get it. And the aggregate of all members on the list goes to show the world that Robert Heinlein appeals to more than a fringe element or cloistered admirers. Perhaps you're in the common position of believing you're the only person in your town who's ever heard of Heinlein? there are a lot of towns in the world, and this community reaches all of them. Become an active part of it.

The fact that you're here at this site and reading this information indicates that you're interested in Robert Heinlein. Why not add your name to the roll so that interest can be reciprocated and shared?

Cost

The cost of membership in Heinlein Nexus is US$0.00. (That's €0.00, £0.00 and ¥0; contact us for other currency conversions.)

No membership fee? How can that be?

The function of Heinlein Nexus is primarily information exchange and mutual networking, which these days either costs very little or carries staggering expense. That's because information can be gathered and maintained by volunteers, or by a hugely expensive professional staff. We're a volunteer organization (as was Heinlein Centennial) and plan to remain one, so our operating costs are negligible and are underwritten by a few patrons. There is no need to limit (or burden) membership with fees and dues, which often become a resource-consuming management effort in their own, not to mention an annoyance to members.

Our longer-term agenda does include projects that will incur signficant costs. These projects will be funded by grants or specific donations by patrons interested enough in the outcome to open their checkbooks. Members and the entire community will benefit… but never be billed. We don't even have plans to solicit donations other than by open announcement of each need.
